While Jeep has been making compact off road vehicles since the WWII era, the Wrangler name was first used on a CJ-7 replacement in 1986. With body on frame construction, live front and rear axles and removable top, the new Wrangler was just as much a Jeep as the earlier CJ-7. The JK generation was introduced in 2007 and was only just replaced this year. The JK was an instant success with hardcore Jeep fans and simple commuters alike. It still offered the same removable doors and top, and foldable windshield as the earlier models.
