Around the Streetside showroom, we hear a lot of conversations, and those we hear about this 1968 Camaro lead us to believe that it won't last long. The paint is gorgeous, it's powered by a stout 502 cubic inch big block, and is the ideal cruiser to hit the shows this summer.
Another black SS you say? Look closer. The paint was done fairly recently and the work was quite well done, so it's still looking good today. Not perfect, but good enough to go out on the town Friday night and show with pride anywhere. Check the crease running the length of the body, it's straight and crisp, one of your biggest tipoffs that someone went the extra mile to get this one right. Add in a cowl induction hood, a ducktail spoiler, and no stripes or other distractions, and you have the quintessential F-body hot rod that almost everyone can agree looks awesome. This one also offers proper SS badging and a few bits of stainless trim that really looks good against the black paint. And with that stance and the fat rubber out back, it's pretty hard to miss this one going down the street.
Behind the wheel, there are no surprises. The leather seat covers are new and are a nice improvement over the factory pieces, and the handsome steering wheel is a modern leather-wrapped piece that looks exactly right here. Auto Meter gauges replace the originals in the dash, and all the engine's various functions are covered by a quartet of auxiliary dials down under the dash. Recent carpets give it a showroom fresh feel, and the door panels are neat custom pieces that successfully blur the line between OEM and custom. A modern AM/FM stereo fits in the original slot, so no dashboards were harmed in the making of this Camaro, and you'll note that it sports ice cold A/C that's fully functional. A B&M shifter replaces the original unit between the seats, ensuring that the 4L85E 4-speed automatic transmission always in the right gear. Check the trunk and you'll that it has been upholstered to match the interior, including under the lid!
If you're looking for streetable horsepower, look no further than the ZZ502 crate motor under the hood. Making 505 horsepower and 567 pounds of torque, it delivers a pretty nasty punch yet remains very street-friendly. With a Holley 4-barrel, MSD ignition and some long-tube headers, it is 100% ready to rock. Installed about 1000 miles ago, it snarls and burbles on the overrun, just the way you'd expect and looks great doing it with finned Chevrolet valve covers and a chrome air cleaner, along with the black block and aluminum intake manifold. It's supported by a big aluminum radiator with electric fans and a serpentine belt drive system for the accessories. Underneath, it's quite clean and was obviously built for combat, with a Magnaflow exhaust system with turn-downs ahead of the rear axle and a 4-link setup supporting a Ford 9-inch rear endout back full of 3.73 gears. Four wheel disc brakes are from Wilwood and the chassis has been beefed up with subframe connectors to reinforce the tub. It rides on beautiful one-off Forgeline three-piece wheels ($6600 all by themselves!) measuring 18x8.5 in front and 19x9 in back.
