This 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 is a very very nice car. 2 owners, with 2nd owner owning the last 45 years or so. This car was never driven in the winter since his ownership, always stored indoors, and meticulously maintained. When it was stored it was kept in one of those inflatable car capsules!!! Although this is an older and correct restoration, it remains in excellent condition and was restored as it came from the factory. It still has most of the original parts it came with and all signs point to this being a True SS Car. This is based not only on the previous owner stating it but what the car is equipped with. Since the Vin # does cannot prove it is an SS, we have to go by how the car is equipped. It has the Black Accented Grill, special ss hood, original sport wheels (not on car), power disc brakes, side stripes, front ss parking lights, original ss dash, and original ss door panels.
The body on this car is extremely nice. It is very straight with great body lines and gaps. When it was restored it was repainted in it's original color of 71 LeMans Blue. The paint still looks very very nice. The underside of the car is in excellent condition and still retains all of the original floors. They did add Full GM quarters when it was repainted, but the rest of the sheet metal is original. This is a very sharp and clean Chevelle!! The interior is excellent. Very original and unmolested. They added a Cassette Player back in the day, but we have the original radio. The seats, headliner, dash, and carpet are all in great shape. The dash and instrument cluster are original and also in great shape. All of the lights, gauges, heater, wipers work and it still has the original 3 Point Seat belts.
The engine is a 396 V8 built locally by a respected engine builder. It is not the original engine, but it is date correct. Casting Number is 3955272 which verifies this is a 396 Engine from 1969. The pad has the JQ suffix which also verifies the engine is a 396. It was built to stock, but added a mild cam and it runs excellent! They also added headers, but we have the original stock manifolds which will come with the car. Under the hood was done to look stock and original. Transmission is the 4 Speed manual that shifts excellent. It has the 12 Bolt Rear End with 3.31 Posi. The car has Power Steering and Power Disc Brakes. It really is a blast to drive and it runs strong. Recently the front end had new bushings and ball joints put in which is also why it drives and steers so nice.
Rear Axle code is CF which is 3.31 Posi Traction which only came in 396 Cars. Transmission casting is 3925660 and was built in late 1968. It is too early of build to tell if it is an M20 or M21. It does not have the A, B, or C stamped because it was built in January and they did not stamp at this time. This is all based on the information we could find.
