MUSTANG MACH 1
Due to the loss Ford took with the Edsel, the Father of the Mustang, Iococca, worked in secret with a small team to conceptualize a new vehicle that he hoped to cater towards the baby boomers. The small team came up with several main goals; it had to seat four passengers, had to have bucekt seats and a floor mounted shifter, weigh no more than 2500 lbs and be no more that 180 in in length, sell for less than $2500, and offer plenty of customization for consumers. Development of this vehicle after conceptualization only took 18 months, and in 1964 the first Ford Mustang was launched. In 1969, the first Ford Mustang Mach I was released as a performance-oriented option. The 1973 For Mustang Mach is both apart of the first generation of Ford Mustangs, and apart of the second generation of Mach I vehicles. It was also the last iteration of the pony car.
