The new 1996 Camaro SS was featured in 35 automotive publications throughout 1996 and made an appearance on the cover of 17 top magazines. The modifications by SLP gave the 1996 Camaro SS extra horsepower and gave the car appearance, handling, and braking upgrades to go along with the added power. The SS was an optional package on the Z28 thus meaning the 6-speed transmission was standard and there was an optional automatic but the 5-speed manual was not an option on the SS as it was on the standard Camaro.
