1979 Toyota Celica Supra MA46 Celica 4 M-E XX Original Factory Paint showing 102724 miles offered by Gas Monkey Garage to be seen on an upcoming episode of Fast Loud!
When I caught wind of this extremely well preserved, original paint car in Wyoming that is largely unmodified, I knew I had to act quickly to secure it and I did! This premium example is in remarkable original condition ( even the A/C blows cold!) with few exceptions. While it sports a set of attractive aftermarket Alloys, the Original Factory rims are included (see all pics). The factory stereo head unit has been upgraded to a period correct Sony AM/FM Cassette unit as well.
Released in Japan in April of 1978 the first model year of the Toyota Celica Supra was known as the Toyota Celica XX, drawing inspiration from Toyota's first super car the 2000 GT, The Supra traces much of its roots back to the 2000GT owing to an inline-6 layout. The first three generations were offered with a direct descendant to the Crown's and 2000GT's M engine. Interior aspects were also similar, as was the chassis code "A". it was a formidable competitor to the popular Datsun Z car!
Built at the Tahara Plant in Aichi and released in the US in January of 1979 as the Celica Supra, it shared the Celica bodywork from the “A” pillar back but was stretched from the windshield forward by nearly 130 mm to accommodate the larger 2563cc 6-cylinder Fuel Injected 4M-E engine. 4-wheel Disc Brakes along with uprated suspension and larger sway bars were required as well.
This well-equipped 5 speed manual example includes the optional Sunroof, in dash 8-Track and power windows. And while the interior is in phenomenal condition, it's not perfect. The rear seat interior panels are showing some wrinkling that could be corrected. Also, the center console under the hand brake was cracked with a previous attempt to repair it with an unattractive Aluminum panel. The shift boot was also incorrect and after exhausting all possibilities of obtaining the correct factory parts, the decision was made to fabricate suitable replacement parts that are more aesthetic, but not original (again, see all pics).
Exterior pics show the condition of this survivor car with the Original Factory Paint still showing well after all these years with a few minor nicks and chips as shown. The area around the sun roof shows a previous attempt to correct some concerns with the finish.
Under hood photos show the condition of the well maintained engine with all factory Fuel Injection components present and un-modified. The 2,563 cc engine fires up immediately with a smooth idle that is quiet and reassuring. Running through the W 50 Manual Transmissions 5 speeds is both exhilarating and confidence inspiring, truly a joy to drive! Driving reveals smooth acceleration with confident road manners and firm braking
Underside photos show the incredibly solid and un-modified condition of this remarkably well preserved Supra a very solid chassis that is clean and void of modifications as a car that has been treasured and cared for throughout the years should look. Underside photos show the incredibly solid and original condition of this truly rare find!
