This limited-edition Corvette paid homage to the already very successful C7.R race cars, and then went on to win the Drivers, Team, and Manufacturers championship in the WeatherTech Sportscar series in 2016, AFTER this car was built! It is essentially a street legal race car, is already a collector's item being #319 of 500 built, and is bound to stay that way due to the success it achieved in its year of production.
Can a sportscar look any better than this Black Corvette? We doubt it. Everything about it is just bad to the bone. The “visible carbon ground effects package” is race car aero on the street. It just about blends in with the paint on this black car which creates a ghost stripe effect that is echoed in the black graphics on the hood. The Carbon Ceramic brakes with their Yellow calipers complimented by a thin yellow stripe on the black wheels are also on display for all the world to see. The only other color on the car is splashes of it in the crossed racing flags on the nose and tail and the Z06 badges on the front fenders. The quad exhaust pipes out the back of the car sandwiched between the rear ground effects tunnels not only look good but sound awesome at full throttle. And with its one street-oriented feature, a removable Targa roof, you can listen to those sounds instead of the stereo if you wish.
For all the cutting-edge race-oriented technology and ground effects evident on the outside, when you open the door, you will find an interior packed with all the modern comfort and convenience features that you would expect in a world class supercar. It is beautifully trimmed out in supple Black leather with suede microfiber accents and yellow stitching. The door panel itself is a work of industrial art with sweeping lines integrating a comfortable armrest, controls for windows, locks and hands-free tech, as well as several speakers for the Bose sound system if you choose to listen to it instead of the sounds of the exhaust. The seats are power adjustable, heated, vented and comfortable. The flat bottom steering wheel is an amazing combination of a race-oriented with paddle shifters as well as controls for tech at your finger-tips so you never have to take you hands off of it. A carbon fiber dash contains displays for all the gauges in front of the driver including a G-meter, as well as all the systems like climate control, stereo and navigation in the center.
Moving on to what technology has brought us in the way of race tech for the street, you can pop the hood and check out the 6.2-liter LT4 engine that pumps out 650 supercharged horsepower. An engine topper announces it as the Corvette LT4 engine and frankly, most of the other mechanical magic is hard to see, but easy to feel when you mash on the gas pedal. The power flows back to an 8-speed, paddle shifted, automatic transaxle with its own cooling system mounted at the back of the car providing perfect race car weight and balance. Carbon Ceramic brakes not only provide amazing fade free stopping ability from the speeds this car is capable of, but they reduce un-sprung weight, improving the handling in the process. The fully independent suspension uses carbon fiber mono leaf springs both front and rear and power rack and pinion steering provides precise control. The rubber meets the road through Michelin PS Cup 2 tires developed especially for the Vette which are 335/25ZR20 in the back and 285/35ZR19s in the front mounted on those awesome C7.R wheels.
