Camaro

With rising fuel prices and a higher price tag, the turn-of-the-decade 1980 Camaro dropped in sales and production was nearly cut in half from previous year. Like previous models, however, the Camaro came in four versions: base, Berlinetta, RS, and Z/28.

The inline six-cylinder that had been the standard base engine for many years was replaced by a 229ci V6. Also, a new tight mesh grille slightly updated the cars front end.

The Z/28’s engine had been modified to produce 190hp, up 15 from the previous year.

The RS, with its two-tone scheme slightly altered, was distinctive looking compared to its predecessor.

The Berlinetta returned again as the luxury model, and proved popular once again. Changes were minimal and included a reduction of max speed on the speedometer from 130mph to 85, and the vinyl roof option was eliminated.
