The 1965 Mustang saw the introduction of a new style, the 2+2 Fastback. Originally named after the P-51 Mustang fighter plane, a Mustang horse served as the emblem. Carroll Shelby and Ford collaborated to produce the GT-350 that was a fastback specially tuned by Shelby and produced 306hp in street tune, but 360hp in special GT-350R race tune. The Shelbys had no back seat, and were only available in white and were fully race ready. A new package, the GT, was introduced and included an upgraded instrument cluster, dual straight-through exhaust system with flared, chrome tailpipe extensions and four-inch fog lights in the grille, among other features.
