1970 Plymouth Road Runner Convertible, 5700 Original Miles
The 1970 Road Runner Convertible is a very rare survivor and all original car with fewer than 6000 miles from new. Having received one respray in its original In-Violet Metallic color, the Road Runner is otherwise original with service work limited to mechanical upkeep and maintenance in order to preserve originality. It is the perfect drivable collector or candidate for preservation as a low mileage example of the marque. The car's condition and mechanical components are suitable for any use from driver to time capsule display. In recent years, it has served as an event display vehicle and museum car.
The In-Violet paint finish is presentable for local shows and weekend cruise events, with some aging apparent in small areas of trim and in the black accent areas. Body metal is straight and virtually blemish free in every area with only small corrections needed to restore as new. Aging to surface stripes and trim is concurrent with an all original car of this age, but remains minimal owing to the car's very limited road use. The white top, glass, and brightwork show very slight aging degradation.
Engine Bay Condition
The Road Runner's original 383ci engine and automatic transmission show as original and unrestored, with only mechanical maintenance performed throughout the car's life. As a result, there are signs of fluid seeping, paint nicks and fading to surfaces to be expected in an original drivetrain. Running gear is mechanically sound and reliable, with all components present including the optional original air conditioning.
The Road Runner's interior includes the original white seats and trim with black dashboard and instrument panel. It retains its original split bench front seat and column shifter. All interior components remain in tact and original to the car. Switchgear and instruments work as they should, and slight wear is visible to high touch surfaces only. Carpet and seat surfaces are well preserved and reflect the low mileage and limited use of the car.
Chassis and Undercarriage Condition
Chassis and undercarriage show road use and original unrestored condition. There is no corrosion damage to components and the car retains all of its original undercarriage rubber and hardware. Optional dual exhaust remains and weathering is limited to surfaces in exposed areas. The chassis and undercarriage have aged well with normal degradation for a low mileage, well cared for car.
This Road Runner Convertible presents well as a very low mileage survivor with an early respray to original specification. Its rarity is noted in the accompanying documentation as one of 41 such cars known to exist. Of great collectible consideration is the low miles and originality throughout, with drivetrain components present from new and well-preserved condition. As such, it is suitable to be displayed as a surviving example of the marque, or as a very original car to be enjoyed on the road occasionally and displayed in shows and events. Documentation includes Galen Govier Chrysler Registry Letter, Govier Decoding Report, Notes regarding car's rarity, previous titles and ownership documents.
