1962 was the first year that the 327 V8 debuted as Chevrolet's premier V8. The 1962 Corvette was built around the new for 62 327 as it came in 4 different horsepower configurations: 250hp, 300hp, 340hp and 365hp. The performance orient 340hp and 360hp featured a solid lifter came, aluminum intake and 11.25:1 compression ratio. The 340hp featured a single Carter 4 Barrel Carburetor and the 360hp utilized a Rochester Fuel Injection unit. The fuel injection alone came at a healthy $484.20 premium for 1962 which equated to $376.00 dollars for the 20 extra horsepower that the fuel injection provided. As a result, the 340hp cars outsold the fuel injected cars by nearly 2500 units.
